Organizational security seems to be in the hands of the workforce. Per a Fortinet report, the shortage in cybersecurity skills is catapulting corporate boards into facing several data breaches. Interestingly, the requirements for skilled cybersecurity experts have decreased from 3.12 million to 2.72 million. However, companies are continuing to face security bottlenecks across the globe. Organization Security and Cybersecurity Skills Shortage
The world needs 65 percent more growth in cybersecurity skills to have an effective organizational security mechanism, per (ISC)²’s 2021 Cyber Workforce Report. At least 8 out of 10 enterprises suffered security breaches owing to skills scarcity. These breaches caused revenue loss and recovery expenses or penalties for 64 percent of the companies worldwide. So, 88 percent of corporate board members regularly discuss the state of their organizational security. Furthermore, 76 percent of the senior executives want to increase their cybersecurity and IT talent pool. Cybersecurity upskilling is a relevant solution to lessen their worries.
Training and Certifications
Ninety-five percent of the respondents opine that technology-based certifications improve the capabilities of cybersecurity professionals. Ninety-one percent of the participants are ready to invest in scaling up their in-house organizational security awareness. Eight-seven percent have already conducted such programs. But 81 percent would prefer to hire resources already having such certifications.
Retaining the Right Talent
Not only should you train or hire a workforce with cybersecurity skills, but you must also strategize how to retain them. Sixty percent of the respondents face problems hiring while 52 percent have trouble retaining the cybersecurity talent they currently have. On top of that, 89 percent of the respondents want to diversify their workforce. 7 out of 10 managers face challenges hiring women and new graduates. Nonetheless, 75 percent plan to increase diversity by hiring women and 59 percent by recruiting minorities. Fifty-one percent of the respondents are also looking to hire veterans.
